The Netherlands is disintegrating, crumbling, slowly collapsing, just some recent reports. And ….

And while everything is going backwards or is about to collapse, nothing is solved, instead, the government pushes to produce even more. Not in support of basic facilities, but mainly in favor of export. [PS1] Without even workers being available for this. Who then switch from basic facilities to commercial companies, increasing societal problems. While its easy to overcome if there is sometimes no service on a local cafe terrace , its unforgivable if there are not enough nurses or people working in youth care.
On top of that the government is promoting that people should work more, less part-time…
Where? And why? To load the creaking ship even more full with export containers, which get so heavily loaded that they even fall overboard by themselves.
While on the ‘Ship of State’ there is no one at the helm anymore, as well as there is no navigator present, who sets the ultimate goal, no one is available for the pumps, the galley runs on food donations, the sickbay is unmanned.
And keep loading, that ship. Wait, we will build even bigger ships…. For more containers, produced by Tata Steel, filled with products from the chemical industry, the environment of which is so polluting that no one should be allowed to live there. Or filled with products for export from livestock farming, or God forbid with flowers, which are only a few hours in the Netherlands for the auction. Oh sorry, they don’t go by boat, but even by plane… subsidized. Just like shrimps, because they have to be peeled abroad.
All at ridiculous energy rates, which means that the rest of the Netherlands has to bend over backwards to keep the energy system going, while most people can no longer afford it.
Well, you know the list of problems yourself. But there is no one at the wheel who really sets a different course here, who solves the problems, that is to say, they are not actually problems, it is greed that always wins over common sense, over healthy living.
So there is no one who has the courage to make choices. How says up to here and no further. We are first going to prop up the house, before we expand. If that were even possible while holding a permanent sale.
And nobody is really worried about the fact that a large part of the country is also threatened by sea level rise and related effects: But continuing to build and produce in that area below Sea level will create enormous costs for everyone in order to save it in the near future. Its about 5 million people living below sea level. If you want to move out 100,000 per year to higher and dryer areas, you will be busy for 50 years!. That is, if housing is available there. But there isnt, there are no workers for essential services, all moved to the big profit game industries. But apart from that, even if it takes 50 years… then you are already far too late. Then it is again a matter of saving what can be saved by throwing billions and shouting that we have to work harder.
The only conclusion is that the Netherlands is at the end of its shelf life. And it is time to make plans for an orderly retreat*.
But yes, who has the guts to make the decision …?

PS1: For some time now we have not been a country anyway, but only a transit hatch for the rest of the world, of all sorts of things: from drugs to meat, from flowers to data, of money and energy.

*I have argued before that we should give ourselves as a gift to Germany, and thus create some backup (Germany is half as densely populated)
